Community Engagement with Women & Girls
Collecting Shea nuts
Women & girls pick the ripe fruits directly from the ground beneath Shea trees. Harvesting from the tree is avoided to prevent damage to branches and unripe fruits.
Production of Shea butter
The nuts are boiled or steamed to deactivate enzymes that can spoil the fat. This also makes shelling easier.
Value Chain
The Shea value chain encompasses all the stages involved in transforming Shea nuts from collection to final products such as Shea butter, cosmetics, and edible oils.
Climate Change & Green Generation
Awareness on climate change
Climate change awareness involves educating and informing people about the causes, effects, and solutions to climate change.
Tree planting of indigenous shea tree
Tree planting of the indigenous Shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa) is a crucial conservation and economic activity in Africa’s savanna regions. The Shea tree is native to sub-Saharan Africa and provides multiple benefits — ecological, social, and economic. Its nuts produce Shea butter, a valuable product used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals.
